Education ForumWelcome to the Education Forum. Following are our Focused Discussions, accompanied by brief introductions. Our Open Forum is designed to accomodate a more free-flowing dialogue. FOCUSED DISCUSSIONS:The High School Guitar CurriculumThe high school guitar program may be the most established area of K-12 guitar instruction in schools. There is sure to be a huge variety of curricula and stylistic types depending upon the needs of the schools and experience of the teacher. For the sake of focus in this topic, let's differentiate between those high school guitar classes that are introductory and strumming-centered with those that are oriented to developing students with the same essential musical skills as band and orchestra programs—that is, reading fluency, standard repertoire, solo and ensemble performing, etc. Let’s also say that the program type we are discussing is based upon three levels of classes offered: beginning, intermediate and advanced. What should these programs teach? Or more precisely: Instructional Goals: What should the students be reasonably be expected to do at the end of three years, of two, of one?Submitted by admin on Tue, 2007-02-13 12:26.

HELP! college audition piecesSubmitted by lilkarategrl137 on Wed, 2007-11-14 17:23.
Hey there! So I am a junior in highschool and im trying to start working on audition pieces for next year. I have been playing for 6 years and I would say I am a intermediate/advanced player, but recently I have been with a teacher who is on and off trying to get his degree in music as well. So, I was thinking I should get some advice from anyone who can help. I can play jazz and other acoustic type solo songs, such as Mood for a Day by Yes. Would that be a good song to play? What classical pieces should I look into? and what kind of other songs should I include? [ Related: Focused Discussions ]
Julios Sagreras: What do you think?Submitted by Thomas Byers on Wed, 2009-03-04 13:01.
I have been doing research in to guitar methodology for a thesis of mine. I have met some strong criticism when inquiring about Julio Sagreras' six books. More specifically, when combined in the Manuel Lopez Ramos methodology, I have met further resistance amongst unnamed professors heading prominent guitar programs. Can we have a discussion on this matter? I am at a loss as to why many guitar instructors are so turned off to this method and not to others. Some have suggested the focus on rest stroke as a reason for the lack of support amongst mainstream guitar educators, yet those same people taut Aaron Shearer as a great method. The first pages of the Shearer's book stress the importance of the rest stroke! Where is the logic? Hope to hear some thoughts. [ Related: Focused Discussions ]
Music Hunt!Submitted by Jordan on Tue, 2009-12-22 11:07.
Hello GFA members,
Ive been trying to hunt down Le Rossiniane No. 1 op. 119 (or Rossiniana No. 1 op. 119, im unsure) throughout the guitar sheet music archives of the internet; gsp, stringsbymail but i havent been too lucky. Stringsbymail had a complete collection but it was unclear if i would only be getting the introduction of op. 119 or the full three movements. [ Related: Focused Discussions ]
Guitar adaptation of Villa-Lobos's Bachianas Brasileira #5Submitted by B Dimit on Tue, 2010-01-19 11:31.
Hello, This is my first post to the forums. I've wondered for years about some of the notation in this work--particularly the X-shaped note-heads in measure 19. I recently learned that these are simply quarter-notes in the original, possibly altered by Segovia under the guise of "fingering" the piece. [ Related: Focused Discussions ]
